The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has released the names of some of its governorship candidates in states where former presidential panel chairman Okoi Obono-Obla claimed the party had no nominees.

The party, in a statement on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described the claim as false and intended to mislead Nigerians.

Obono-Obla had on September 1 alleged that the NDC had no governorship candidates in eight states, saying the information was obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Reacting, Director said the NDC has duly nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where elections are scheduled to hold in 2027.

He listed the party’s candidates as Kabiru Marafa in Zamfara, Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim in Borno, John Odey in Cross River, Babanta Michael Okon in Akwa Ibom, Nwofe Boniface in Ebonyi and Yakubu Solomon Ndam in Plateau.

Others are Ilu-Barde Aliyu in Katsina, Umar Usman Besse in Kebbi, Jonga Yahaya Gabakau in Yobe, Dutse Aminu Sani in Jigawa, Yahaya Mohammed Sani in Taraba and Abdu Sidi Bomi in Niger.

Director maintained that the NDC is not a regional party but a national movement with structures, candidates and supporters across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He urged journalists and content creators to verify information before publishing, stressing that unverified claims could undermine public confidence in the media and democratic process.

The party said it remains focused on issue-based politics and would not be distracted by what it described as sponsored falsehoods.

However, efforts to obtain the names of the remaining 16 governorship candidates from the party were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
