The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, as unfit to serve as Nigeria’s Vice President in 2027.
The APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made the assertion in a statement on Sunday while reacting to Amaechi’s recent comments about his financial difficulties and the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi.
Morka began the statement by expressing condolences over the death of Amaechi’s mother and praying for the former minister’s good health.
He, however, turned the condolence message into a criticism of Amaechi, sarcastically praying that employers in his hometown of Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, would find him a job capable of providing for himself and his family.
Amaechi, a former two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor, two-term Minister of Transportation and former presidential aspirant, is currently the running mate to the ADC presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
According to the APC, Amaechi’s recent remarks about his financial condition raised questions about his ability to manage the responsibilities of high public office.
Morka recalled that Amaechi had previously complained that he had become broke and hungry to the extent that his wife was feeding him.
The APC spokesman also referred to Amaechi’s reported claim that he could not afford medication for his mother before her death at the age of 89.
Morka argued that Amaechi’s inability to sustain himself financially after leaving public office demonstrated what he described as an unhealthy dependence on government patronage.
“Rotimi Amaechi’s uncanny confessions must not be missed,” Morka said, adding that the former governor had spent decades occupying senior public positions without developing a sustainable livelihood outside government.
The APC spokesman further described Amaechi as a “loafer, aimless and irresponsible” if his financial difficulties were indeed the result of an inability to earn a living outside public office.
He questioned why Amaechi, having allegedly struggled financially after leaving office, would seek another opportunity to occupy a top government position.
Morka said the ADC candidate was now asking Nigerians to elect him Vice President in 2027, alleging that his objective was to return to the public treasury.
“The presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” he said.
Morka concluded that Amaechi’s own statements, rather than the APC, provided the strongest argument against his suitability for the vice-presidential position.
“No one can speak more to Rotimi Amaechi’s unfitness for the office of Vice President than Rotimi Amaechi himself,” he stated.
