Tinubu begins commissioning of major FCT projects Tuesday

President Bola Tinubu will on Tuesday, June 9, commence the commissioning of a series of major infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, disclosed this on Monday during a site inspection tour to assess the readiness of projects slated for inauguration.

According to Wike, the President will begin with the commissioning of the second phase of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) Main Carriageways, which he described as fully completed and ready for use.

“Tomorrow, the President will start the commissioning of the OSEX road, which was the first place we visited this morning,” the minister said.

He explained that the commissioning exercise would continue throughout the week, with President Tinubu scheduled to inaugurate the strategic Arterial Road N5 in Life Camp on Wednesday, June 10, and the newly dualised Highway 105, linking the Airport Road to Kuje, on Thursday.

“These three projects are one hundred percent complete and ready for commissioning. What is important to us is that we have been able to achieve the timeline, and I commend the various contractors involved for keeping to their promises,” Wike stated.

The minister added that the President would also inaugurate key projects in the FCT Area Councils, underscoring the administration’s commitment to extending development to rural communities and satellite towns.

While withholding details of the projects to be commissioned outside the city centre, Wike said the interventions reflect the government’s determination to improve the lives of residents across the territory.

He credited the achievements to the support and leadership of President Tinubu, noting that the administration has demonstrated a commitment to completing projects inherited from previous governments.

“The credit must go to Mr. President, who has given that directive and support for us to go this far. One of the things about leadership is the will to continue with projects that may not have been initiated by you, but you continue and complete those projects,” he said.

On the delay in the commencement of operations at newly completed FCT bus terminals, Wike urged residents to be patient, explaining that the facilities are undergoing the necessary concession and procurement processes.

He revealed that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) lease arrangement for the management of the terminals, while the concessionaire is currently assembling buses and taxis to ensure seamless operations.

“Government process is not easy; bureaucracy is involved. The person going to manage the facility has pleaded with us that he is assembling the buses and taxis to ensure that it takes off smoothly,” the minister explained.
