Tinubu commissions 20 FCT judges’ quarters, reaffirms commitment to rule of law

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and judicial independence with the commissioning of 20 residential quarters for judges of the FCT High Court in Katampe District, Abuja.

Represented by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the President said the project reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda’s focus on rebuilding institutions, improving judicial welfare and enhancing access to justice.

Tinubu described the housing scheme as a strategic investment in democracy, noting that his administration had earlier delivered residential quarters for judges of the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court, while similar projects are underway for the National Industrial Court and the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

He dismissed claims that the provision of official residences could undermine judicial independence, insisting the intervention is separate from the judiciary’s budget and is solely aimed at providing judges with secure and comfortable accommodation to enable them discharge their constitutional duties without distraction.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the project was executed in line with President Tinubu’s directive to improve the welfare and security of judicial officers. He disclosed that three additional court complexes would be completed before year-end, while another 20 housing units for FCT High Court judges are planned before the end of the President’s first term.

Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, described the project as a landmark investment in judicial independence, saying improved welfare remains essential for a productive, secure and impartial judiciary.

The judges’ quarters became the 26th consecutive project inaugurated by the FCT Administration as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
