Tinubu: Karu township roads will boost local economy, ease traffic

President Bola Tinubu has said the ongoing construction and rehabilitation of road infrastructure across satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is aimed at revitalising local economies and improving the quality of life for residents.

Represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, the President made the remarks on Monday while inaugurating the newly rehabilitated and expanded Karu Township Roads in Abuja.

Tinubu described the project as a key achievement under his Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it reflects his administration’s commitment to reducing urban congestion and delivering critical infrastructure where Nigerians live and work.

He recalled that when his administration assumed office three years ago, the Karu corridor—a major gateway linking the FCT with neighbouring states—was plagued by severe traffic congestion that hampered productivity and daily activities.

According to him, the expanded road network will significantly reduce travel time, eliminate persistent gridlock, and create a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

The President also commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for driving the rapid transformation of Abuja through focused implementation of the administration’s urban renewal agenda.

He further praised the contractor, Abdul-Val Constructions Limited, for delivering the project on schedule and to high standards, describing it as proof that indigenous firms can execute projects that meet international quality benchmarks.

Speaking at the event, Wike said the road project has transformed the Karu landscape and urged residents to appreciate the government’s efforts regardless of political affiliation.

“It doesn’t matter the political party you belong to. When you see something good, say it is good,” he said, adding that the road serves everyone irrespective of political differences.

The minister assured residents that all communities and districts across the FCT would continue to benefit from infrastructure development under the Tinubu administration.

He also lauded Abdul-Val Constructions Limited for its commitment to completing the project, noting that the company continued work even before receiving full payment because of its confidence in the government.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, explained that the project, awarded in August 2025, covers the road linking the Karu Interchange on the Abuja–Keffi Expressway to Customs Clinic Junction, as well as the DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Hospital Road and Old CBN Quarters Road within Karu.

He said the completed project will improve accessibility, ease traffic flow, strengthen drainage infrastructure, enhance security, and further integrate Karu—one of the FCT’s most populated satellite towns—with Abuja city centre, reducing travel time to less than 10 minutes.
