Wike: Rainbow coalition backing Tinubu’s 2027 reelection underway

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says a broad-based “Rainbow Coalition” involving politicians from different parties is being formed to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.

Wike disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT.

He said the coalition was being strengthened following recent political realignments, including a meeting with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

According to Wike, Adeleke’s move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party was driven by the need to secure a platform to contest for a second term.

He said Adeleke’s support for Tinubu, despite being in a different political party, was part of efforts to build a wider coalition across party lines.

“What happened last night is a meeting to rebuild a larger Rainbow Coalition,” Wike said, adding that more political developments would emerge in the coming weeks.

The minister said the coalition, which he described as an initiative he started in Rivers State, was now being expanded nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike also dismissed claims by opposition politicians that they played a significant role in recent electoral developments in Osun, saying political parties weakened by internal crises could not provide effective opposition.

He specifically criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi and PDP chieftain Dele Momodu, arguing that the crisis within the PDP had weakened the opposition.

Wike further said the 2027 contest was already tilting in Tinubu’s favour, insisting that opposition politicians would struggle to mount a formidable challenge.

The minister maintained that his objective was to ensure that Tinubu wins the 2027 presidential election, saying he was not concerned about how his political opponents reacted to the unfolding realignments.
