Hassana Yohanna, a middle aged woman has been charged with criminal intimidation and arraigned before an Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, for allegedly calling a man impotent.
In a direct criminal complaint filed before the court, the complainant, one Jibrin Sawuta told the court on Thursday that the defendant hurled insults at him in presence of others, causing him embarrassment .
Yohanna, is standing trial on a three counts of intentional insult, defamation and criminal intimidation.
The offence runs contrary to sections 312, 371 and 376 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
According to Sawuta, he was at the palace of the village head of Fadan Kagoma, chatting with his friends, when he received information that his brother had been arrested by the police.
He said on getting to the said police station, the defendant emerged from nowhere and started hurling insults at him, calling him impotent and stressing the fact that he had no child.
He alleged that after insulting him, the defendant rushed at him.
Yohanna who pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to her, prayed the court to grant her bail, to which the defendant objected.
George Gwani, the presiding judge while ruling on the matter, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N30,000 and one surety who must be a district head within the jurisdiction of the court.
The judge who asked the complainant to present witnesses to prove his case adjourned the matter to June 19.
