A member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Ijebu North I State Constituency, Hon. Rasheed Kashamu, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has earned the confidence of Nigerians to seek a second term in office in 2027, saying the administration’s reforms and development initiatives have laid the foundation for a more prosperous and economically resilient nation.
The All Progressives Congress lawmaker said President Tinubu assumed office at one of the most difficult periods in Nigeria’s history but had demonstrated uncommon courage by implementing what he described as bold and far-reaching reforms aimed at repositioning the country’s economy for sustainable growth.
According to Kashamu, while the reforms initially came with inevitable challenges, they have begun to yield measurable results across critical sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture, education, security, youth empowerment, healthcare, investment, digital economy and social welfare.
He maintained that continuity would enable the administration to consolidate ongoing reforms and accelerate national development.
“The journey of rebuilding any nation is never an overnight exercise. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited enormous economic and structural challenges that accumulated over several years, yet he chose the difficult path of reforms rather than the easy path of postponing problems.
“Today, the indicators are gradually showing that those courageous decisions are beginning to produce positive outcomes. What the country requires now is continuity, consistency and sustained leadership to fully harvest the gains of these reforms,” he said.
Kashamu commended the administration’s economic policies, noting that efforts to unify the foreign exchange market, expand government revenue, attract investments and improve fiscal discipline have strengthened Nigeria’s economic outlook.
He added that international financial institutions and global investors have increasingly acknowledged Nigeria’s reform agenda, resulting in renewed investor confidence and improved macroeconomic stability.
The lawmaker said the Federal Government’s commitment to massive infrastructure development remains one of the defining features of the Tinubu administration.
He cited ongoing work on major federal highways, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway initiative, the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, and continued investments in rail transportation, inland dry ports and other strategic infrastructure designed to stimulate commerce and regional integration.
According to him, improved infrastructure would reduce transportation costs, enhance trade and unlock economic opportunities across the country.
Kashamu also applauded the administration’s agricultural policies, describing food security as one of the government’s major priorities.
He noted that the Federal Government has continued to support farmers through mechanisation initiatives, dry-season farming programmes, access to improved seedlings, fertilizer distribution and interventions designed to boost local food production while reducing dependence on imports.
He said increased investments in agriculture would not only improve food availability but also create employment opportunities for millions of Nigerians, especially young people in rural communities.
On education, the Ogun lawmaker described the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as a landmark intervention that has expanded access to higher education.
He said the student loan programme has provided financial support to eligible students who previously struggled to pay tuition fees, thereby reducing financial barriers to tertiary education.
He also commended increased investments in technical education, digital learning and skills acquisition programmes aimed at preparing Nigerian youths for the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy.
Speaking on youth development, Kashamu said the administration has consistently prioritised programmes that promote entrepreneurship, digital innovation, vocational training and employment opportunities.
According to him, initiatives supporting technology startups, creative industries, innovation hubs and digital skills development are positioning Nigerian youths to compete favourably in the global economy.
“Our youths represent the greatest asset of this nation. President Tinubu understands this reality and continues to create opportunities that empower them through education, entrepreneurship, innovation and access to finance,” he stated.
The legislator further praised ongoing reforms in the health sector, including efforts to strengthen primary healthcare, improve access to essential medicines, upgrade medical facilities and expand health insurance coverage for vulnerable Nigerians.
On security, Kashamu acknowledged that challenges remain but argued that the Federal Government has intensified efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality through improved intelligence gathering, enhanced collaboration among security agencies and increased investments in military equipment and personnel welfare.
He said the gradual restoration of peace in several troubled communities demonstrates that the administration’s security strategy is producing encouraging results.
The lawmaker also highlighted the administration’s commitment to local government autonomy, tax reforms, ease of doing business, power sector improvements and social investment programmes as evidence of a government focused on institutional reforms capable of delivering long-term national prosperity.
He urged Nigerians to assess the Tinubu administration based on its long-term vision rather than temporary economic difficulties associated with structural reforms.
“No transformational leader is remembered for avoiding difficult decisions. Great leaders are remembered for making the decisions that secure the future of generations yet unborn.
“President Tinubu has demonstrated courage, vision and commitment to nation-building. These reforms require time to mature, and that is why continuity is essential,” he said.
Kashamu called on members of the All Progressives Congress and Nigerians across political, religious and ethnic divides to continue supporting the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, insisting that national development should transcend partisan interests.
He expressed confidence that by 2027, more Nigerians would experience the full benefits of the administration’s policies and programmes.
“I have absolute confidence that history will judge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu kindly. The foundation being laid today will produce greater economic prosperity, stronger institutions, expanded opportunities for our youths and a more secure Nigeria.
“That is why I believe he remains the right leader to consolidate these gains beyond 2027. Our country needs stability, continuity and sustained reforms, not a reversal of the progress already being made.
“I therefore urge Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu as he works to build a stronger, more united and economically prosperous nation for present and future generations,” Kashamu added.
