The Police in Keande Local Government Area of Benue state are currently on the trail of one Oliver Vershima , a Catechist who serves in St. Martin’s Parish Mbape in Akikpo deanery.

Vershima is said to be on the run because he is wanted for questioning over the death of his lady friend.

Those in the know said that the Catechist was first nabbed with the corpse of his lover, as he made to go dispose of it. But he somehow successfully wriggled his way out from the grips of his captors and went into hiding.

A resident of the community told newsmen on Tuesday that the Unfortunate event happened on Saturday evening at about 7pm when he was seen with the body of the still unidentified lady who came in from a neighbouring community.

“On questioning him, it was discovered that he (Oliver) had impregnated the lady and they tried to terminate the pregnancy but in the process, the lady lost her life early hours of the day (Saturday).

“To conceal this, the catechist hid the dead body inside his room until nightfall so he could take the body out of the village and possibly run away.

“Unfortunately for him, he was caught while trying to carry the body out of the village but he later escaped in the melee,” Terhemba the resident revealed.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer for the State Command, SP, Catherine Anene confirmed the case and said that the police have visited the scene, taken possession of the corpse and deposited it at a morgue for an autopsy.

“The corpse of the said young girl who was said to have visited her man friend was recovered and taken to the mortuary after a report was received but the said Oliver is yet to be seen as he brought the corpse out of his room and ran away”, Anene said.
