NDLEA arrests three persons with disabilities in drug raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested three persons with disabilities during separate anti-drug operations carried out in Anambra and Kwara states as part of its ongoing nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking.

The agency said one of the suspects, 60-year-old Romanus Nwabara, was arrested in the Akpaka Forest area of Onitsha, Anambra State, following intelligence reports linking him to drug distribution activities in the area.

According to NDLEA operatives, Nwabara was apprehended on Wednesday with 250 grams of skunk already packaged in retail sachets for street-level sales.

In another operation in Ogbunike, also in Anambra State, officers arrested 25-year-old Amos Kenneth after recovering various illicit substances in his possession.

Items seized from the suspect included 160.3 grams of Tramadol in different dosages, 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grams of Exol-5 and 176.93 grams of skunk.

The NDLEA also disclosed that a third suspect, identified as Usman Salisu, was arrested during a stop-and-search operation along the Bode Saadu axis of Kwara State.

According to the agency, Salisu was intercepted while travelling in a commercial vehicle and was found with 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed inside a brown school bag.

The agency stated that the arrests were part of broader anti-narcotics operations conducted across several states in recent days to disrupt drug trafficking networks and reduce the circulation of illicit substances.

Beyond enforcement activities, the NDLEA said its state commands have continued to intensify sensitisation campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse initiative.

The awareness programmes were reportedly held in schools, religious centres and local communities across Nasarawa, Ekiti, Enugu, Abia, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Kano and Oyo states.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the operations for their commitment and vigilance.

Marwa urged operatives nationwide to sustain the momentum in the fight against drug abuse, trafficking and substance-related crimes across the country.
