Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has ordered the immediate dissolution of all ad hoc committees of the House.

The dissolution took effect on Friday, August 28, 2026, following the expiration of the deadlines given to the committees to complete their assignments and submit their reports.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Clerk of the House, Sidi Ibrahim, and addressed to the chairmen and members of the affected committees.

According to Ibrahim, only two committees had requested additional time to complete their assignments, and they were granted a two-week extension. He said the extension had since expired.

The Clerk said the committees were temporary bodies established to carry out specific, time-bound assignments and could not continue beyond their approved mandates.

He cited Order 18, Rule 11, Paragraph 5 of the House Standing Orders, which provides for limitations on the time allowed for committees to submit their reports.

Ibrahim said the affected committees had exceeded their allotted periods, making their continued operation untenable.

He consequently directed that all activities being carried out under the name of the dissolved committees cease immediately.

Chairmen of the committees were also instructed to submit any outstanding reports, working documents, records and other materials relating to their assignments to the Clerk’s office for safekeeping.
