Controversial Nollywood producer and actor, Yomi Fabiyi with fellow thespian, Adeniyi Johnson have come out to plead on behalf of skit maker, Maruf Abdullahi also known as Trinity Guy, who was on Monday remanded at the Agodi correctional centre in Ibadan, Oyo state by a family court sitting in Iyaganku.
The accused who had been on the Police raider for weeks over his over-the-top skits was arraigned on the charge of sexually exploiting a 10-year-old girl in one of his social media videos.
Also arraigned and remanded were the parents of the minor, Isiaka Ahmed, 40, and his wife, Rofiat, 29. They face a two-count charge of conspiracy and sexual abuse and exploitation alongside the skit maker.
Adeniyi who pleaded for mercy wrote: “Dear Nigerian police force and every other related agencies!!! many of us agree that our brother did what is wrong and absurd!! All I am pleading for is to TEMPER JUSTICE WITH MERCY A.. please @iamtrinityguy is a young man looking for what to eat legally but he incidentally fell on the wrong side of the law!!! Please be merciful as I know he has learnt already @nigerianpoliceforce.”
In a lengthy post on his Instagram page, Fabiyi, asked the police to carry out a thorough investigation and not trample on his right.
Hear him: “…we all including the police should CORRECT HIM WITH LOVE and not TRAMPLE ON HIS RIGHTS by illegally detaining him, initiate unfair trial etc. The Police cannot judge him, charging him to court is simple civil and dignifying procedure.
“Do not see it as punishment or end to his career. PRANKS IS GLOBAL, moderation and counselling for better and healthy content is my own goal here. @adejobimuyiwa please the right charges and if none, POLICE CAUTION is lawful. Do not allow for total destruction of this guy’s life, career and means of livelihood. His intentions are clear. My humble submission”, he said.
Meanwhile, thousands of online watchers have asked the actors to do well by staying off the case since they didn’t deem it fit to correct the defendant when he was going about recording incriminating contents.
The Magistrate, P.O. Adetuyibi who didn’t take the defendants’ plea adjourned the case to July 11 for mention.
