A coalition of civil society organisations, trade unions, youth groups, community associations, social movements, and faith-based organisations on Friday staged a protest in Lagos, decrying worsening insecurity and rising economic hardship across the country.
The demonstrators converged at the Ikeja Under Bridge, calling on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to address what they described as the deteriorating living conditions of millions of Nigerians.
Participants expressed concerns over the increasing wave of insecurity, soaring inflation, and the growing cost of living, which they said continue to place immense pressure on households and businesses nationwide.
According to the coalition, the demonstration was organised as a mass action against worsening insecurity, escalating economic hardship, and policies perceived to be negatively affecting ordinary Nigerians.
Protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “End all anti-people policies now,” “End hunger,” “Free all captives now,” “Decent minimum wage,” “No democracy without security,” “For a living wage and mass job creation,” and “Tinubu has failed Nigeria.”
The protesters urged authorities at all levels to prioritise citizens’ welfare and security while implementing measures aimed at easing economic pressures and improving living standards.
The demonstration comes amid growing public concern over the rising cost of living and increasing cases of insecurity reported in different parts of the country.
