FCT threatens to revoke titles of hotels, event centres used by illegal groups

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has warned owners of event centres, hotels, and other public facilities in Abuja against allowing their premises to be used by illegal organizations, threatening to revoke the title documents of defaulters.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Mr. Lere Olayinka.

According to the statement, the move is part of efforts by the FCTA to strengthen security and support ongoing operations by security agencies in the nation’s capital.

The administration stated that the use of event centres, hotels, and public buildings in the FCT would now be closely monitored to ensure they are not used for gatherings capable of disrupting public peace and order.

The FCTA stressed that lands allocated within the territory are meant strictly for lawful activities, adding that any facility found hosting illegal organizations risks losing its land title.

The statement also directed owners of such facilities to verify the legitimacy of groups seeking to use their premises and maintain proper transaction records.

“In this political season, owners of Event Centres and Hotels in particular must ensure that they only deal with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-recognised leadership of political parties in respect of the use of their facilities,” the statement said.

It added that failure to comply with the directive would attract sanctions, including revocation of title documents for affected properties.

The FCTA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory through stricter monitoring and enforcement measures.
