FG declares May 27, 28 public holidays for Eid-el-Kabir

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration across Nigeria.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holidays in a statement issued on Monday, saying the move reflects the government’s respect for the Islamic faith and the spiritual significance of the festival to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and around the world.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora, describing Eid-el-Kabir as a period that symbolises sacrifice, obedience to God, compassion, and unity.

He urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and national progress, while encouraging citizens to embrace brotherhood and national cohesion during the celebrations.
