Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid ongoing political realignments involving factions of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing supporters at the rally, the governor formally announced his ambition to contest for Nigeria’s highest office.
“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, announce my candidacy for the position of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he declared.
The announcement followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the PDP in Oyo State and the APM as part of a strategic alliance for the 2027 elections.
Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, signed the agreement on behalf of both parties.
Under the arrangement, candidates aligned with the PDP faction in Oyo State are expected to contest the governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly elections on the platform of the APM instead of the PDP.
The alliance is seen as a major political development ahead of the 2027 elections and could reshape the opposition landscape in the state and beyond.
