Four dead as driver crashes into truck while pressing phone in Ogun

A driver has crashed his car into a moving truck while pressing his phone along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and this has resulted in the death four persons.

The accident took place next to the Rain Oil Petrol Station early on Saturday morning, just opposite Mountain Top University.

The fatal accident involved a Mack truck with the registration number T21024LA and a Lexus RX350 with the registration number KTU738HM.

Confirming the incident and number of casualties, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said that “two persons were unhurt while four were recorded dead from the crash,” a total of six male adults.

The spokesperson for the FRSC, Florence Okpe, said, “The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed, use of phone while driving, which led to loss of control on the part of the Lexus driver and he rammed into a moving truck.”

Okpe added that the victims’ remains were placed in the mortuary of the Real Divine Hospital in Ibafo.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Umar, the FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun, has issued a warning to drivers about the risks of using phones while driving.

Umar expressed sympathy to the victims’ families and suggested they get more information about the accident by contacting the FRSC’s Ibafo office.
