A serving Nigerian military intelligence officer, Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, has been shot dead after reportedly resisting an attempt by armed men to abduct him at his residence in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The attack occurred shortly after the senior officer arrived home on Monday evening, July 27, 2026. According to security sources, the gunmen ambushed him as he stepped out of his vehicle and opened fire in what appeared to be a kidnapping attempt.

Despite being heavily outnumbered, Colonel Ude reportedly fought back and resisted the attackers, foiling their attempt to abduct him. The assailants then shot him multiple times at close range, killing him at the scene.

The gunmen also opened fire on members of his household, leaving his wife, driver and security guard with gunshot injuries. The three victims were rushed to a hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Colonel Ude, a native of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State and an Igbo Muslim, was serving in military intelligence and was reportedly due for promotion to the rank of Brigadier General next year.

He is scheduled to be buried at the Mambilla Mosque in Abuja in accordance with Islamic rites.
