Labour Party suspends Abia gov, Abuja senator, others

The Labour Party has made the significant decision to indefinitely suspend six key members, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Senators Darlington Nwokocha and Ireti Kingibe, due to alleged anti-party activities. This action follows the findings of a Disciplinary Committee established on May 2, 2025, to investigate these allegations.

The National Executive Council of the party stated that the suspension is effective immediately and prohibits the affected members from participating in any party activities. The full list of suspended members includes:

  1. Dr. Alex Otti
  2. Senator Ireti Kingibe
  3. Senator Darlington Nwokocha
  4. Hon. Victor Afam Ogene
  5. Hon. Amobi Ogah
  6. Hon. Seyi Sowunmi

The party’s statement clarified that Nenadi Usman was not included in the suspension because she is not a registered member but rather a supporter of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate. The Labour Party criticized Usman for her previous allegations and questioned her integrity regarding corruption issues.

Moreover, the Labour Party asserted its intention to remain independent and will not enter into any coalitions or merges ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing its commitment to contesting as a standalone entity. The leadership expressed that no further discussions on this matter will be entertained.
