The Lagos State Government has dismissed a report alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign on health grounds, describing the claim as false and misleading.
The report, circulated by Sahara Reporters, suggested that the Governor had been directed to step down, with the Deputy Governor expected to take over.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the report was entirely untrue and should be disregarded.
He stressed that no such directive had been issued by any authority, adding that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally sound, and fully engaged in the administration of Lagos State.
According to the statement, the Governor earlier received the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who visited him to formally indicate his intention to contest for the governorship seat in the future. The meeting, it said, was cordial and routine.
The government accused Sahara Reporters of a pattern of spreading misinformation and said the clarification became necessary to prevent the public from being misled.
While noting that it would ordinarily ignore such claims, the statement said it chose to respond in order to reassure residents of the state.
The public was urged to disregard the report in its entirety and treat it as fake news.
