The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has taken action to address the issue of poor sanitation in Tejuosho Market, Yaba in Lagos state. Several plazas around the market have been shut down by LAWMA due to environmental offenses, including improper waste management and a filthy environment.
According to LAWMA’s Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the move is part of LAWMA’s ongoing efforts to promote proper waste management practices and raise awareness about the dangers of poor sanitation in various markets across Lagos State.
“Under our policy of zero tolerance for environmental infractions, LAWMA is totally committed to maintaining high environmental standards across the state.
“The ongoing enforcement actions are part of our broader efforts to sanitise markets, highways and public spaces, to acceptable standards”, Gbadegedin said.
Tejuosho Market is a bustling commercial hub in Lagos, known for its diverse range of goods and services. However, the market has been plagued by sanitation issues, which have not only posed health risks to traders and customers but also contributed to the overall degradation of the environment.
Other markets that are currently under lock and keys over environmental infractions include Oyingbo, Alayabiagba, and Oke-Odo markets.
