Many in doubt as bank manager commits suicide over customers’ ₦1m loan default

The death, allegedly through suicide of a 41-year old bank manager, Sola Ogungbe has left many in doubt of the real reasons behind the incident.

It is suspected that the banker may have committed suicide on Wednesday, over some bank customer’s inability to pay back loans he facilitated.

Ogungbe, who until his death was a manager of SEAP Micro-finance bank located at Saki, Oke-Ogun, Oyo State was discovered lifeless at his residence in Iseyin.

The deceased was said to have been facing crisis in his office, over about N1m loans he facilitated, using his position as manager, of which the customer’s defaulted in payment.

It was gathered that it was his wife, who discovered his corpse when she went home to check up on her husband, after receiving a call from his office, reporting his absence at work.

The caller informed the wife, who was not aware that her husband has not been reporting to work that he was absent again on Wednesday.

On getting home, the wife allegedly met her husband whom she left hale earlier same day, dead and in a position that suggested suicide.

Some of the deceased’s friends who confirmed his death are of the opinion that his death is fishy as he never spoke to them about any issue, troubling him.

A friend simply named Ezego said: “And a manager of a micro finance bank will take his life over N1m loan that he personally did not take? This story no add up.”

Another who pleaded anonymity said: “Because of 1million? You are just 41 years old. I don’t think it’s just 1 million. Something is not right.”

However, the family of the deceased has commenced burial prepartions as his remains have been taken to his home town in Omu-Aran in Kwara state.
