Music star Tory Lanez sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion

In a highly anticipated ruling, Canadian rapper, Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting fellow hip-hop artist, Megan Thee Stallion multiple times in the feet.

The incident occurred on July 12, 2020, during an argument about their music careers

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was found guilty last year December of three felonies: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

During the trial, the jury was told that Lanez had fired a gun at Megan Thee Stallion’s feet and shouted at her to dance as she walked away from a car in which they had been traveling on.

According to the prosecutor, Edward Welbourn: “Megan got lucky that night, but her luck should not negate (Lanez’s) culpability. Her luck is not his luck. You know what Megan didn’t do? She didn’t shoot anybody. She didn’t embark on a campaign of disinformation.”

The sentencing took place in Los Angeles Superior Court, where Judge David Herriford delivered the verdict

Lanez, 31 years old at the time of the incident, had requested either probation or a minimal prison sentence.

Lanez did not react to the sentence as it read out, but he had addressed the court before the verdict was given. He said that he still considered himself and Megan Thee Stallion “friends” and that he “did wrong that night and I take full responsibility and culpability for it.”

However, the judge ultimately decided on a 10-year prison term.
