The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle high-potency illicit drugs into Nigeria, uncovering consignments of ketamine and MDMA (Ecstasy) pills concealed inside water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands.
According to the agency, operatives discovered 3 kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA hidden in the machines at a Lagos-based courier company on May 26, 2026.
In a separate operation in Kaduna State, NDLEA officers arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, along with a third suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, after recovering 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms from a residence in the Gonin Gora area.
The agency also intercepted 380 rounds of military-grade 7.62mm ammunition along the Abuja-Kaduna highway at Jere. A suspect, Sunusi Musa, was arrested, while the ammunition and suspect were handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.
Elsewhere, NDLEA operatives in Niger State raided a warehouse in Bosso Local Government Area, recovering 457 kilograms of skunk and arresting a suspect, Godwin Zakka. In Enugu State, officers intercepted a commercial bus transporting 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 grams of bromazepam, leading to the arrest of the driver, James Maigari Wisdom.
The agency said it has continued its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign across schools, communities, places of worship and workplaces.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers involved in the successful operations and urged personnel nationwide to sustain efforts aimed at reducing drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
