NDPHC plans 1,500MW boost for Lagos power supply

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) says it plans to inject an additional 1,500 megawatts of electricity into Lagos State to help bridge the city’s widening power gap.
NDPHC Managing Director and CEO, Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during a visit to the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), where she said Lagos currently receives only about 1,000MW from the national grid despite an estimated demand of nearly 12,000MW.

According to Adighije, the company has about 2,000MW of stranded generation capacity that can be deployed to improve electricity supply in the state.
She explained that although NDPHC has an installed generation capacity of about 4,000MW, it currently dispatches between 400MW and 500MW daily due to infrastructure and market constraints.

Adighije said the company is ready to partner with LASERC by investing in transmission and distribution infrastructure to deliver more reliable electricity to Lagos residents.

Responding, LASERC Managing Director, Temitope George, welcomed the proposed partnership and reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving power supply and achieving 24-hour electricity in selected franchise areas.
