The Plateau State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged mob killing of a 25-year-old University of Jos graduate and model, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as Ibee, in Jos.

Mbaya was reportedly accused of stealing an iPhone before he was allegedly tortured and beaten to death by a group of young men said to be known to him.

According to reports, the deceased had attended a social event on the University of Jos campus before deciding to spend the night at a friend’s residence in the Ring Road area of Jos because it was too late to return to his home in Rayfield.

The following morning, his friend reportedly informed him that an iPhone had gone missing and claimed that since they were the only two people in the room, Mbaya was the prime suspect.

It was gathered that Mbaya initially left the apartment but later returned after receiving a phone call from the same friend, who allegedly asked him to come back and explain the disappearance of the phone.

On his return, Mbaya was allegedly confronted by his friend and several other young men in the compound, who accused him of theft.

Witnesses alleged that the group descended on him, severely assaulting him in an attempt to force a confession.

The assault, which was captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media, reportedly lasted for several hours. During the attack, Mbaya was allegedly beaten with dangerous objects until he became unconscious.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Command, SP Alfred Alabo, said officers received a report at about 11:20 p.m. on July 26, 2026, from a concerned individual at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), informing the police that some youths had brought an unconscious man to the hospital under suspicious circumstances.

Alabo said police operatives immediately responded and identified the victim as Ibrahim Mbaya of Rayfield, Jos.

He said the victim was, however, confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.

The police spokesperson disclosed that detectives launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Rinji Daniel, Fwanji Emmanuel Newyear, and Nensemka Fwanji.

According to the police, Emmanuel Newyear was seen in the viral video allegedly using a large wooden plank to repeatedly assault the deceased during the attack.

The command said investigations are ongoing and assured the public that all those involved in the incident would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
