Police: Davido was target of Osun convoy attack by cultists

The Osun State police have said music superstar David Adeleke, publicly known as Davido, was the target of the attack on the convoy of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in Osogbo on Wednesday.

The incident occurred during the governor’s visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, shortly after he received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Davido, who actively participated in the election alongside the governor’s children, had accompanied Adeleke to the INEC office and later to the monarch’s palace.

According to the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, preliminary investigations indicated that suspected members of the Eye Confraternity attempted to gain access to Davido but were resisted by his security team.

Ojelabi said the confrontation attracted other suspected gang members, who allegedly blocked the palace entrance and obstructed the movement of the governor’s convoy.

He added that gunmen later shot a 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, at Itaolokan area of Osogbo. The victim was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he was pronounced dead.

The police said one Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged”, an ex-convict and suspected gang member, was allegedly involved in the incident.

The command said it had launched a full-scale investigation and intensified efforts to apprehend the suspects.

The Commissioner of Police (Election), Osun State Command, CP Samuel Etaifo, condemned the attack and urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist the investigation.
