Police free nine kidnapped children in Zamfara

The Zamfara Police Command has announced that it had rescued nine children who had been kidnapped by bandits from the Gora-Namaye Community, Maradun Local Government Area, of the state.

The information was revealed in a statement released on Sunday in Gusau by ASP Yazid Abubakar, the command’s public relations officer.

“On 3rd June, 2023 at about 2014hrs information was received from the district Head of Gora-Namaye village in Maradun LGA that nine children comprising males and females who were sent by their parents to fetch firewood in the bush were intercepted and abducted by armed bandits,” he said.

“Receiving the report, the joint police and other security agencies mobilized to the scene and commenced a search and rescue operation that led to the rescue of the children.”

According to the police official, the command had reunited the victims with their relatives and the search for the perpetrators is ongoing.

“Efforts are still on in tracing the hoodlums for prosecution,” Abubakar said.

According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), bandits invaded some communities in the same Maradun LGA on Saturday, murdering a number of innocent people.
