The Nigeria Police Force has paraded 50 suspects arrested in connection with terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities, following a series of coordinated operations across the country.
At a press briefing held on April 13, 2026, at the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) headquarters in Abuja, police authorities disclosed that the arrests were part of an intensified campaign against high-profile crimes threatening national security.
The Force also showcased a cache of recovered weapons and items, including 17 rifles of various models, one anti-aircraft launcher, 111 rounds of live ammunition, 17 cartridges, nine magazines, five walkie-talkie communication devices, three mobile phones, and a vehicle.
According to the police, the operations, conducted between January and April 2026, led to the dismantling of several criminal syndicates. Among the major breakthroughs was the arrest of a 33-member gang linked to terrorism, cattle rustling, and a violent attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State.
The police also announced the arrest of suspects connected to the killing of three officers attached to the Donga Divisional Headquarters in Taraba State, describing it as a significant step toward justice for the slain personnel.
In addition, operatives targeted criminal networks operating within the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states, arresting individuals involved in “one-chance” abductions, car burglaries, and the setting up of fake police checkpoints.
In a related development, the police arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Nasiru Ibrahim, in the Igumale area of Benue State. He was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and eight rounds of live ammunition.
Investigations revealed links to a suspected bandit identified as Janari, who allegedly supplied the weapon. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect and other members of the syndicate.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to enhancing security nationwide, noting that the recent achievements underscore the police’s determination to combat crime and ensure justice.
Police authorities added that several of the arrested suspects will soon be charged in court, while investigations continue to track down other accomplices and recover additional illegal arms.
