Popular Delta pastor killed by church member | CAN calls for probe

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed shock over the killing of Greg Sagie, a well-known Delta state based pentecostal pastor. The association has sent condolences to the family.

The Christian body has also called on relevant security outfits to unravel the mystery surrounding the death.

According to family members, Sagie was killed in his home in Sapele by a suspected church member who had attacked him with a machete on Thursday.

A source explained that on the faithful day, the deceased was resting in his home around noon when the attacker barged into his home and threatened to kill his young children. Luckily they ran out and raised an alarm which attracted neighbours.

“We ran out and saw the attacker. He was a young man in his 20s. He threatened us that if we dared to climb the storey building to meet him, he would kill us. He then jumped from the storey building and fled. The children told us he was a member of their church and that they recognize him. They even described where he lived,” the source who introduced herself as Nneka said.

Pastor Sagie was said to have sustained severe cuts on his head and died on the way to the hospital. “He breathed his last on the way to the hospital where his car broke down,” another neighbour named Isaac said.

A police source who spoke to the press said: “We are yet to know the motive behind the attack, but the police would unravel it soon.”

The late Sagie had been described by his church members as humble, caring and dedicated man of God.
