President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to take over the leadership of the ministry as part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s global diplomatic engagement.
In a related development, the President has nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate. Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
A seasoned diplomat, Enikanolaiye brings over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service, having previously held positions such as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served in diplomatic missions across Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the appointments are part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy framework for greater efficiency, enhanced strategic engagement, and stronger international partnerships.
President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to promote Nigeria’s national interest, advance economic diplomacy, foster regional stability, and protect the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
