21-year-old Blessing Udoh was on Monday brought before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos State for allegedly providing the Nigeria Police with false information concerning a murder case.
The defendant appeared before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun on a two counts charge of provision of misleading and false information.
According to the prosecuting officer, Rita Momoh, Udoh had told policemen at the Satellite Divisional Headquarters and the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti that a man, Christopher Ibekwe had murdered one Moses Chidi by pushing him into the river.
The offence she said took place on November 3, 2022, in the Agboju area of Lagos State.
However, during investigations, it was discovered that the information was false.
Momoh told the court that the offence goes against and is punishable under Sections 411 and 95 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The charge reads as follows : “That you, Blessing Udoh, and one other now at large, on November 3, 2022, at the Agboju area of Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did deliberately supply information to the Nigeria Police, State CID, Panti and Satellite Division that Christopher Ibekwe had killed one Moses Chidi, by pushing him into the river, an information you know to be false and misleading and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 95 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge, just as the magistrate granted her bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned till November 10 for mention.
