Joy Bishara, a former student of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state who escaped after Boko Haram invaded the school in 2014 announced her engagement to James, her American boyfriend, on her Instagram page on Tuesday.
Bishara was one of the schoolgirls who escaped after Boko Haram invaded their school. She and her cousin, Lydia Pogu, jumped out of a window and ran away from the school when they realized that Boko Haram had attacked it. They ran for three days and eventually found their way back to their families.
After attracting global attention, both girls were relocated abroad were Bishara graduated from Southeastern University with a degree in social work in 2021.
On her Instagram page she said: “I said yes to Love, laughter and happily ever after with my best friend. James exceeds everything I ever prayed for.
“God’s faithfulness amazes me daily. I am overjoyed to be starting this journey with the love of my life. Mr and Mrs loading…”
The announcement of her engagement to James has been celebrated as a happy ending to her story, which began with a traumatic experience.
