A 24-year-old undergraduate of the University of Port Harcourt, identified as Victor Ochonogor, has been arrested by the police in Edo State for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend, Success Regha, to death.
The incident happened on Monday at the accused residence at number 10, Osahon Street, Ogheghe Quarters, off Sapele Road, Benin City.
According to eyewitnesses, on the day of the incident, the deceased visited the accused house and they had an argument. The argument degenerated into a fight, during which the suspect stabbed the deceased with a knife.
While speaking to the press on Tuesday in Benin, the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Dankwara, said the suspect’s landlord, Emmanuel Momoh, reported the case to the police.
Dankwara said Ochonogor had stabbed the deceased in the neck and chest with a knife.
Speaking in the development, the suspect said: “I have been dating her for three years now and she accused me of being a kidnapper. I asked her why she was accusing me of being a kidnapper.”
The police spokesperson in the state, Chidi Nwabuzor, further said that the suspect would be charged to court soon.
