GWR: Amazing Nigerians with uncommon talents

Following the recent recognition of Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Chef Hilda Baci as the record holder of the longest cooking marathon by an individual, by the Guinness World Records (GWR), Newspread takes a look at a few other Nigerians who had also achieved spectacular feats and put their names on the global list.

  1. Gbenga Ezekiel – Record for the most skips in a minute on one leg. He broke the record in February 2023
  2. DJ Yin – Record for the longest DJ set. She broke the record in October 2021
  3. Bose Omolayo – Record for the heaviest Para powerlift by a female in the -79 kg category. She lifted 144 kg (317 lb 7 oz) at the World Para Powerlifting Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, on December 2, 2021
  4. Stephen Keshi – Record for the youngest person to win the Africa Cup of Nations as a player and coach. He broke the record in February 2013
  5. Paul Kehinde – Record for the heaviest Para powerlift by a male in the -65 kg category. He lifted 221 kg (487 lb 3.5 oz) in December 2018
  6. Chinonso Eche – Record for the most consecutive football (soccer) touches in one minute while balancing a football on the head. He achieved 111 touches in Lagos, Nigeria, on March 11, 2022
  7. Kaffy – Record for the longest dance party. She broke the record at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon in 2006
  8. Peter Aho – Record for six wickets for five runs in 3.4 overs against Sierra Leone. He broke the record in October 2021
  9. Lauritta Onye – Record for the heaviest shot put by a female athlete in the F40-41 class. She threw 8.40 m (27 ft 6.7 in) at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  10. Olawunmi Treasures Bayode – He set a record for reading aloud for 122 hours at a Read Aloud Marathon Session organized by the YouREAD Initiative in Lagos, Nigeria.
  11. Chidera Anemege- He holds the record for the longest freestyle rap while jumping rope, which he achieved by rapping for 25 minutes and 56 seconds while jumping rope in Lagos, Nigeria.
  12. Harrison Chinedu- He holds the record for traveling the farthest distance while balancing a football on his head, which he achieved by walking a total distance of 48.08 km from the Redeemed Christian Church of God Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.
