A Shari’a court sitting in Gama PRP, Kano State on Tuesday sentenced Abubakar Musa to 17 months in prison for stealing two cell phones worth 165,000.00.
The court heard that Musa, a resident of Atlanta, entered the house of one Abdullahi Adamu without permission at night while he slept and stole two cell phones.
Musa was traced and arrested by the police a few days later and charged with theft. He however pleaded guilty to the charge after the Prosecutor, Aliyu Abidin Murtala, read them to him in court.
Justice Nura Yusuf Ahmad sentenced Musa to five months in prison for breaking and entering into a house and one year in prison for the crime of theft. He also ordered Musa to pay the value of the stolen phones to the victim.
The judge said that the sentence was to serve as a deterrent to others who might be thinking of committing similar crimes.
