Victory Gbakara was crowned the winner of Nigerian Idol Season 8 on Sunday night. The 22-year-old singer from Jos, Plateau State, beat fellow finalist, Precious Mac to win the grand prize of ₦100 million.
Gbakara’s victory was met with cheers and applause from the live studio audience. He was overcome with emotion as he accepted the trophy from host, IK Osakioduwa.
“I can’t believe this is happening. I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way. This is a dream come true,” he said excitedly.
Gbakara’s journey to Nigerian Idol victory was not without its challenges. He was initially eliminated from the competition in the Top 16, but was brought back as a wildcard. He then went on to win several challenges, including the Viewers’ Choice Award and the Judges’ Choice Award.
In the final round of the competition, Gbakara performed two songs: “My Redeemer Lives” by Nicole C. Mullen and “Fallin'” by Alicia Keys. Both performances were met with rave reviews from the judges, who praised his vocal range and stage presence.
In the end, it was Gbakara’s versatility and his ability to connect with the audience that won him the title of Nigerian Idol.
“I’m so excited to see what the future holds. I’m ready to work hard and make my dreams come true,” he said.
